Rotterdam Loves Burlesque - Show and Party - 25 September 2010

For info and tickets go to drsketchyamsterdam.nl or www.amsterdamburlesque.nl Dr. Sketchy's is an Alternative Life Drawing event - it's a Burlesque Show followed by a series of short poses so you can sketch away these beautiful femme fatales from another era. You don't have to be an experienced artist to come to Dr. Sketchy's, just bring your drawing materials and your good cheer and join in the fun! Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School was founded in New York in 2005 by art school drop-out Molly Crabapple. She created an event celebrating the female form through a fun mix of cabaret-style performance and drawing class, at which everyone is welcome, established artists and enthusiastic amateurs alike. By now there are over a hundred Dr. Sketchy's all over the globe, and starting September 16th 2011 there will be one in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. This branch is run from the already established burlesque scene, headed by Marco 'Charley' Buschman, and sponsored by the comics scene through Lambiek, the oldest comics store in the world, and its representative Margreet de Heer, alongside the singer of Dutch goth-rockers Delain - Charlotte Wessels.

Burlesque Freakout is a spin-off from the Tease-á-GoGo show/party which in 2007 introduced the first complete Burlesque-night-out in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Burlesque Freakout always brings a different show (than the last one) and is a mix of Theatre and Club Night and besides classic Striptease, also brings you Comedy, Satire, Magic, Performance Art, Vaudeville, Live Music and Singing, Acrobatics, Dancing, Cabaret, circus and Variety. Plus -ofcourse- a lot of ''Burlesque dancing music', and original veejaying! "Burlesque" historically has several meanings, another meaning than ''Cheesecake Striptease' is: 'in upside down style.' Like it's cousin, 'Commedia dell'arte', Burlesque turns social norms head over heels, Burlesque is a style of live entertainment that encompasses pastiche, parody and wit. The genre traditionally encompasses a variety of acts such as dancing girls, chanson singers, comedians, mime artists and striptease artists, most with some form of satire and a saucy edge............. Burlesque FreakOut is all about exploring the borders and meaning of ''Burlesque' and will also bring you acts with a new mix of all the perormance styles mentioned above, in effect bringin Burlesque into the 21st century. Come on down to this entertaining night with naughty but nice Burlesque shows, Rock 'n Roll Cabaret and Freaky Veejaying. Dance the night away to an evening of Swingin'-, Snappy-, Funky-, Rock 'n Roll and Soul music! Enjoy the fab atmosphere and dress up for PARTY TIME! On stage there will be Vivacious, Risque, Exotic and Tempting Cuties: THEY do the stripping, YOU do the flipping! A party where Rock and Roll meets Vaudeville and Glamour meets Sleaze.... somewhere in between a Berlin Night Club in the 1920's and a scene from a Quentin Tarantino movie... At every Burlesque FreakOut there is a Best Dressed Contest. We love for you to dress up fancy , in costume: as if it where New Year's Eve, OR......... 20's night club, chique, suave, funny, funky, sexy, freaky, rock and roll or glamorous. Themes to consider: Movie Star, Tropical, the Twenties (40's, 50's, 60's), renaissance, diva, glam, beach, pin-up, masked, Hollywood, twins, private detective, crazy hair and underwear...
